Langara College’s Registered Massage Therapy program prepares students for client care, by giving graduates the chance to work independently or alongside allied health teams. Moving to our main campus, students will now train in the newest and most modern RMT training facilities in B.C., setting a new standard for RMT education in the province.

Imagine learning massage therapy in a brand-new professional clinic environment and treating real clients under the supervision of a professional instructor from day one. That's what students get from Langara's Registered Massage Therapy program, now located at a brand-new clinic on the College's main campus.

Built for exam day and the clinic floor

Langara’s RMT program training moves students from skill-building to job readiness from the start. The two-year program spans a comprehensive six terms with over 3000 hours of classroom instruction, extensive board exam preparation, and real-world clinical experience to help you transition confidently into practice.

Students get hands-on experience helping real patients with practicum and internships integrated together early into the learning. They do so in both clinic and community settings, including with seniors and individuals with spinal cord injuries, under the supervision of RMT program instructors.

The program draws career-changers and health-minded students alike who want practical training and long-term flexibility: “Applicants often share a kinesiology background or come from personal experiences related to sports or pain after having positive experiences with RMTs,” says Backus.

The result is an education designed to prepare you to step into an existing practice or start your own. “Many graduates find work in massage therapy clinics and multi-disciplinary practices or open their own clinics and build successful independent businesses,” explains Backus.

Langara’s RMT program training takes you from skill development to supervised client care. Graduates leave with the knowledge and confidence needed to help patients move better, feel better, and get back to their day. It is also the only such program offered by a public institution on B.C.’s mainland.

“Having the clinic on Langara’s main campus creates opportunities for students to learn in a real-world environment while offering affordable care to Langarans as well as the wider community.” says Backus. “The new space was custom designed for the program’s needs with accessibility and spatial flexibility in mind to support a realistic care-giving environment.”
