In alignment with national cybersecurity guidance and best practices in the post-secondary sector, Langara College has restricted access to DeepSeek AI on all campus networks and College-managed devices.
This precautionary measure, implemented April 30, reflects growing concerns about DeepSeek’s data handling practices, including its collection of personal data and weak encryption standards. The restriction means that DeepSeek websites and applications will not be accessible via Langara networks or College-owned devices.
Langara encourages the safe and ethical use of AI technologies. Alternative tools that meet stronger security and privacy standards remain available to students, faculty, and staff for research, learning, and productivity.
