Vancouver, BC – The Langara College Registered Massage Therapy (RMT) diploma program has been awarded a full five-year accreditation from the Canadian Massage Therapy Council for Accreditation (CMTCA), the maximum period that can be awarded to an institution.

This achievement serves as third-party recognition that the Langara RMT program meets or exceeds national standards for quality massage therapy education, and that Langara remains committed to continuous improvement, to the benefit of staff, students, and the public.

"Achieving a five-year accreditation from the CMTCA is a validation of the commitment the team puts in to ensure that our students are receiving the highest standard of massage therapy education possible,” said Jennifer O’Sullivan, Program Manager for the RMT program. “The CMTCA acknowledged the excellence in curriculum and diversity of the clinical experience that students participate in. We are proud to be recognized at this level."

The process of accreditation involves a multi-day site visit by a three person CMTCA Survey team who speak to members of faculty, staff, the student body, alumni, and an advisory committee. The Survey team also reviews the curriculum, policies, and procedures of the RMT program against CMTCA standards to determine final ratings based on seven standards: Curriculum Content, Faculty and Learning, Student Support, Leadership and Administration, Human Resources, Resources and Infrastructure, and Quality Improvement.

Following the site visit, CMTCA determined that the Langara College RMT program met 95 of the 95 criteria used for measurement.

The Canadian Massage Therapy Council for Accreditation is the national accrediting body for massage therapy in British Columbia.

Langara's RMT program is accredited with CMTCA until June, 2028.
