Vancouver, BC - Langara College food service provider Compass Group Canada continued their significant support of Langara students at an on-campus ceremony on November 20. After creating its sixth endowed award earlier this year, Chartwells donated a further $25,000 to enhance the Chartwells Student Engagement Award.
The Student Engagement Award recognizes and supports student leaders at Langara, providing financial support to participate in valuable extra-curricular activities offered by the Office of Student Engagement. The Award is open to students who actively volunteer, lead, or support campus initiatives led by the Office.
“A key part of Chartwell’s vision, Thinking Ahead Giving Back, is to provide experiential learning opportunities and nourish our relationship with future leaders and campus partners based on their unique needs,” said Mr. Cory Good, Vice-President, Compass Group Canada. “We are proud to support students who are equally passionate about volunteerism and giving back and help them continue to make a difference in their chosen communities.”
The Office of Student Engagement offers a variety of opportunities that enhance the student experience and support development outside of the classroom through volunteerism, student clubs, and leadership activities. Langara’s student volunteer program, VOLT, has amassed over 60,000 volunteer hours on campus and in the community. In 2019, the office launched the Langara International Service Trip (LIST), giving students an opportunity to make a global impact, volunteering in a remote community in Kenya.
“This donation continues to reinforce the ongoing collaboration between the Office for Student Engagement and Chartwells. Chartwells’ allows us to enhance the range of events that we can provide to Langara students,” said Reba Noel, Manager, Student Engagement at Langara College. “The Chartwells Student Engagement Award provides increases students’ access to extra-curricular and curricular opportunities offered by Langara, nurturing their personal and professional development as global citizens.”
Chartwells is a long-standing partner of Langara College, providing valuable funds for student bursaries and awards since 1999. They have established six endowed awards to support and recognize achievements of Langara students, including: Compass Group Endowed Bursary; Chartwells Bursary; Chartwells Nursing Excellence Awards; Chartwells Awards of Excellence; Chartwells Community and Innovation Award for Food and Nutrition Management; and the Chartwells Student Engagement Award.
With the generous support of donors like Chartwells, the College is closing in on its Beyond 49 anniversary fundraising goal of $2.5 million. The College has currently raised over $2 million (or 81%) towards its goal.
