Counselling I

A basic understanding of essential communication and counselling skills is needed to establish an effective counselling relationship and to develop and maintain professional boundaries. A Constructivist model of counseIIing that is in alignment with the learning and teaching paradigm of Nunavut schooling, traditional approaches to helping and healing, and Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit (IQ) Principles will be examined. Counsellors will gain knowledge of and be able to implement protocols for making referrals to appropriate professional services within the community.

This course will involve Inuit counselors and elders as facilitators and guest speakers.
