Doug Warren has been working with wood for more than 40 years.  After graduating with a degree in English Lit and Geography, he completed his apprenticeship to become a Master Stairbuilder and Handrailer and began a lifelong love affair with woodworking.  His love for the versatility and variety of wood led him to explore projects of all kinds, from making furniture to crafting the flowing lines of the signature wooden birds he sold at his Granville Island woodshop.  As an instructor, Doug enjoys the camaraderie that comes with building together in the shop, and exploring his students’ many creative projects.  Doug says:  “The best thing about woodworking? It forces you to concentrate. Concentration is really the key to success in woodworking. It's what keeps you focused, it's what keeps you safe, it's what allows you to shut out everything else that's going on in your life and immerse yourself in the woodworking process. That's when you discover the real gift of woodworking.”  After 44 years in the trade, Doug is still excited to begin each new project and to share that excitement with our new and returning woodworking students.
