Jeff Burgess
graduated from the Alberta College of Art and Design and has been a practicing illustrator and artist for over 30 years. He has worked for most of the major advertising firms in Vancouver, Calgary, Seattle, and Victoria. His clients have included Intrawest, Translink, Fairmont Hotels, Granville Island Breweries, Dairyland Producers, and BC Hydro and his paintings are in many collections across Canada, the United States, and Europe. Jeff has won numerous awards for both illustration and painting. He was hired by Langara College to develop the Commercial Illustration Program for Continuing Studies.

Paul Chizik
is a Vancouver painter trained in Florence and the USA, his work is strongly linked to historical painting in traditional old masters methods. A drawing and painting instructor for over a decade, he teaches Life Drawing in a variety of mediums such as oil, watercolour, gouache and tempera.

Jesse Schilperoort Instructor

Jesse Schilperoort

Jesse studied Classical Animation at Capilano University and received his BFA in painting and drawing at NSCAD University. Career highlights include supervising artists overseas at an animation studio in Kilkenny, Ireland and most recently, created artwork for Zima Blue, part of the Love Death + Robots animated anthology on Netflix. Jesse teaches part time at the Animation Concept Art program at VFS and freelances for the entertainment industry.

Zoë Evamy obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Art and Illustration in London, UK. With a natural flare for colour and movement, Zoë gravitated towards a career in animated film and TV, painting background scenery for classically animated feature films including Anastasia. She followed work opportunities in Europe, the US and finally Canada. As Senior Art Director at Bardel Entertainment, Zoë led the in house design department for over a decade. Now a Canadian national living in Squamish, she balances her passion for painting and drawing with an ongoing interest in Visual Storytelling. Zoë’s art is represented by Mountain Galleries, Whistler; she is an active member of the Federation of Canadian Artists; a faculty member of the IDEA Program at Capilano University and she shows her work in Canada, Western Australia and Texas.

Andrew McDermott Instructor

Andrew McDermott, Self Portrait
Andrew McDermott received his education from Capilano College in Illustration and Graphic Design. Upon graduation, he studied and further refined his own unique style winning top awards in both Canada and the US. Having many published articles, included The Artist magazine 25 under 40 Andrew has also had full feature articles in top art magazines such as International Artist, The Artist UK, Magazin'art, and the Pastel Journal. Andrew has become well known for his distinctive work in pastels, oils, and acrylics. He is president and a senior member for the Federation of Canadian Artists. He is represented in galleries in Canada and the US.

Adam Rogers
, based in Burnaby, BC, is an illustrator with a portfolio featuring a wide range of publications and advertising campaigns who has also worked as a character and layout design artist on animated projects. Aside from his freelance work, Adam is also an instructor at both Emily Carr University of Art an Design and the Vancouver Film School.

Karen Yurkovich Instructor

Karen Yurkovich self portrait

Karen Yurkovich’s practice is driven by the inquiry into the historical, political and symbolic contexts of nature. Her work explores themes such as native and immigrant plants, issues of biodiversity, and the use of plants in medicine and culinary practices. She was director of and taught in the MFA in Studio Art program at Studio Art Centers International, Florence, Italy, from 2013-16 and continues to teach at Emily Carr University and LaSalle College in Vancouver.

Sarita Baker Instructor

Sarita Baker, BFA, MFA has been teaching post-secondary art classes around the Lower Mainland for more than twenty years. Outside of teaching, Sarita has had the opportunity to work in the design industry as a freelance graphic designer, artistic director, courtroom artist, and musical composer. These opportunities provided her with real-world experiences to apply to her teaching in the classroom. She is currently pursuing a Doctoral Degree in Arts Education at SFU.
