Equivalency Exams - Levels 1 & 2

Follow these steps to inquire if you are eligible to write the equivalency test:

  1. To have your academic qualification assessed*, apply by email to the instructor Dr. Sonia Tan, soniatan@langara.ca with proof of equivalent course completion. Copy kramsden@langara.ca on your email.
  2. If approved, you will be contacted to register for the equivalency exam, or to determine a viable date for your exam. This may include the ability to take the test offsite, via an invigilation centre, depending on technical availability in your area. Outside testing centre fees may apply.
  3. Register for the Langara equivalency exam
  4. If writing exam offsite, reserve your testing times as outlined and confirm the arrangements by emailing kramsden@langara.ca. Please copy soniatan@langara.ca on that email.

Note: A minimum of 2 weeks is required to arrange testing. 

Equivalency Exam Fees:

  • Option One: $175 per level (ie. Level 1: Single Systems or Level 2: Multiple Systems)
  • Option Two: $297.50 (if you write both levels on the same date)
* Core Foundations from Academy of Acupuncture and Si Yuan are examples of current acceptable equivalents

Course Description:
Deepen your understanding of the foundations of Balance Method / System Acupuncture with this one-day experiential session. Through practical case studies and hands-on work discover the practical applications of your previous Balance Method/System course work* Level 1: Single Systems and Level 2: Multiple/Global Systems as taught by Dr. Sonia F. Tan, DAOM, RAc, RTCMP.
Prepare yourself for entry into the Langara Balance System Acupuncture Certificate program, or deepen your current practice of Balance System Acupuncture with a clearer understanding of point locations, needling techniques and a practical look at targeted solutions and case studies.

Course Objective:
To provide students who have theoretical training in BSA with the experiential, hands-on experience in needling location and techniques. Students will review cases to refresh and refine their knowledge in a practical interactive way. This course prepares students for entry into the Langara Balance System Acupuncture Certificate program.

Course details:
This course will begin with the review and discussion of Single and Multiple (Global) Balance foundations, as taught from Dr. Sonia F. Tan’s lineage. Hands-on location identification and practice to be included. The second part will apply the understanding with case studies.

Learning outcomes
Upon completion of this workshop, students should be able to (as it relates the foundations of Balance Method / System Acupuncture:

  • Identify the special point locations
  • Provide solutions to specific case studies
  • List the needling techniques associated with this method
  • Recite the Single systems
  • Mirror / Image reviewed
  • Describe The Multiple / Global Balance system breakdown and build up to the Magic maps
  • Demonstrate customization.
  • Adjust responses based on case studies and the practical applications of these systems
