Yvonne Comfort is a dedicated municipal recreation leader with more than 30 years of experience supporting vibrant, inclusive, and community-focused recreation services. A graduate of Langara College’s Recreation program, Yvonne built her career in the recreation field from the ground up, beginning as an outdoor education program instructor and fitness leader and continuing to grow through a wide range of leadership and operational roles. She also holds a degree in Leadership with a focus on supporting change, which has further strengthened her collaborative, people-centred approach to public service.

In her recent role as Manager, Community Recreation Services with the City of Richmond, Yvonne led operations across eight community centres and oversaw a broad range of recreation portfolios, including licensed out-of-school care, preschool, fitness, youth, seniors, and general interest programming. She is stepping into a new role as Deputy Director, Recreation Services and Facilities with the City of New Westminster, where she will continue to support inclusive, accessible recreation services that strengthen community connection, well-being, and belonging.

She is pleased to contribute to the Langara College Recreation Studies Advisory Committee and looks forward to supporting the connection between post-secondary education and the evolving needs of the recreation sector. As both a Langara alumna and a long-time recreation professional, Yvonne brings practical municipal experience, sector knowledge, and a passion for helping prepare future recreation leaders for meaningful work in communities across British Columbia.

Outside of work, Yvonne enjoys hiking and spending time among trees, rivers, and mountains to recharge. She is a strong believer in movement as medicine, loves yoga, and fitness, and is passionate about good food in all its forms: finding it, making it, and most importantly, eating it. Yvonne brings both heart and energy to her work and to the communities she serves.
