Dr. Janet Douglas
A member of the Langara graduating class of 1980, Dr. Janet Douglas was a child protection social worker in B.C. for over 30 years before serving sixteen years as a faculty member in the Social Services Department. Her leadership extended across the institution through her foundational work with the Teaching and Curriculum Development Centre, her role in establishing Langara as a research institution, and her thoughtful contributions to major policy and committee work. Janet’s collaborative and principled approach, integrity, and ability to bring people together have strengthened relationships among faculty, administration, and the union. Her long-standing service to the Langara Faculty Association, including stewarding, bargaining, and mentoring, reflects her dedication to fairness and constructive problem-solving. The first person awarded a PhD in Social Work by UBC, Janet has consistently gone above and beyond to support students, programs, and the broader college community.
Janet retired from Langara in December 2025.
