Dr. Debbie Schachter is Langara College’s Associate Vice-President, Students, bringing extensive leadership experience from post-secondary institutions, public libraries, and provincial accessibility services. She is recognized for her strategic leadership in advancing student services, library innovation, and equitable access to learning resources. Debbie’s work emphasizes inclusivity, collaboration, and fostering a positive student experience.

Debbie has been an active leader locally, provincially, and nationally, serving as Chair of the OCLC Global Council and the OCLC Canada Advisory Committee, and contributing to provincial and national library associations.

Since joining Langara in 2021, she has also served as Director of CAPER-BC, supporting accessible learning materials for students with print disabilities. Her prior roles include University Librarian at Capilano University, Director of Learning Resources and Records Management at Douglas College, and senior management positions with the Vancouver Public Library.

Debbie holds a Doctor of Education from the University of Edinburgh, a Master of Laws in Intellectual Property from Osgoode Hall Law School at York University, an MBA in Management of Technology from Simon Fraser University, a Master of Library Science from the University of British Columbia, and a BA in English and History from UBC.
