Dan Ostrov
Dan is the Instructional Assistant for the Department of Recreation Studies at Langara College. In his role, he supports departmental operations, faculty and students across the Recreation Leadership Diploma and Bachelor of Recreation Management (BRM) programs. His work is multi-disciplinary and spans a wide range of tasks, including student & faculty support, program administration, event coordination, community engagement and recruitment initiatives, departmental communications, digital marketing, content creation, and industry partnership development.
Dan holds a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Physiology from Simon Fraser University. He has also completed a Training, Development & Performance Management Certificate from Douglas College as well as other certificates. His professional background spans recreation, fitness, aquatics, soccer coaching, and community services, providing him with a holistic perspective on health, wellness, leadership, and community development.
Prior to joining Langara College, Dan worked in a variety of recreation and fitness roles including aquatic supervision, personal training, lifeguarding, coaching and recreation programming, as well as time spent in the hospitality sector and other work. Throughout his career, he has been passionate about helping individuals and communities thrive through meaningful recreation experiences, physical activity, and champions lifelong learning for personal growth.
At Langara, Dan enjoys connecting students with opportunities that support their academic, professional, and personal growth. He values the recreation profession's unique ability to foster belonging, wellbeing, inclusion, and community connection.
Outside of work, Dan's interests include connecting with friends and family, playing/watching sports, fitness training, outdoor pursuits, travelling, photography, cooking and nutrition, reading, business and entrepreneurship, emerging technology, and exploring the intersections of health science, human performance, and following innovations in wellness and recreation.
