Courtenay Dobbie

Courtenay Dobbie (1978–2024) was a beloved and transformative figure in Canadian theatre whose warmth, boldness, and dedication left a lasting mark on all who knew her. A graduate of Studio 58 at Langara College, she went on to serve as a faculty member and Artistic Director of the program from 2017 until her passing in 2024. Prior to Studio 58, Courtenay acted, directed, and choreographed across BC and Canada, and served as Artistic Director of the celebrated Caravan Farm Theatre in Armstrong, BC. She directed large-scale musicals at Studio 58 and guided the program through extraordinary challenges with creativity and care, including a successful fundraising campaign for new seating. Known for her infectious passion and community-centred leadership, Courtenay prioritized student well-being above all. Her legacy lives on in the Courtenay Dobbie Theatre Scholarship and in the countless artists she inspired.
