Career Opportunities
Candidates seeking employment with law enforcement agencies (RCMP, municipal police forces, corrections branch, etc.) should determine each agency's requirements in advance. In general, the requirements may include: excellent physical, emotional and mental health; good character (no criminal record); ability to swim; and a valid driver’s license.
Candidates seeking employment with security or protection services face less rigorous physical requirements, but must be in good health and have high moral character. Recent graduates have enjoyed a high employment rate. They are employed with:
- the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP)
- Municipal police forces
- Industrial security departments
- Protection service agencies
- Provincial Court Services and sheriffs
- Federal Customs
- Victim services
- Federal and Provincial Corrections
Transferability
More than 80 per cent of the courses in the Criminal Justice Program are university-transferable, including all 11 criminology courses. Criminal justice is the applied side of criminology. All courses are articulated with the Simon Fraser University Criminology Department as well as other institutions. Students are also eligible to transfer into general arts programs at a variety of universities.
