Ideal for students who want a deeper understanding of the role of police in society, this course examines the evolution and current state of policing in Canada. Students trace the historical foundations that have shaped policing and examine how these origins continue to influence today’s challenges. Key topics include the selection, training, and promoting of officers; community policing; the use of discretion; police misconduct; the influence of police culture; and the balance between authority and accountability.

Priority registration in this course is offered to students admitted to the Diploma in Criminal Justice, Diploma in Criminal Justice (BBA Transfer Option), and Diploma in Criminology.
