Description
Mass spectrometry is the dominant analytical platform for both proteomics and metabolomics. A working understanding of mass spectrometry principles and how data is generated is essential for evaluating data quality, experimental reproducibility, and biological variability. Students practice employing experimental logic, sample preparation concepts, ionization methods, and data acquisition strategies, while maintaining a dry-lab focus. Using example mass spectrometry datasets and analysis software outputs, learners work in small groups to explore spectra, identify features, and interpret quality metrics. These skills empower learners to collaborate effectively with experimental scientists, biotechnologists in the industry, or interpret mass spectrometry-based studies.

Registration in this course is restricted to students admitted to the Proteomics and Metabolomics Applications program.

Corequisite(s): BINF 4025, 4035, and 4040.
