Credential/Course Block Transfer

Langara College Diploma in Design Formation with a cumulative grade point average of B (3.00 on a 4.00 scale) or higher → Emily Carr University of Art + Design 3rd Year of the Bachelor of Design Degree in the major of Communication Design.

Objective of the Agreement

This agreement outlines the general admissions requirements and program options for graduates of Langara College Design Formation Diploma transferring into third year of the Bachelor of Design degree program in Communication Design at Emily Carr University.

The Bachelor of Design programs at ECU requires the completion of 120 course credits (30 credits at the 100 level, 30 credits at the 200 level, 30 credits at the 300 level and 30 credits at the 400 level). Each degree major has specific program course requirements that can be reviewed on the Academic Advising section of the ECU website. Students will be required to make up any academic and/or studio deficiencies as per ECU’s degree program requirements.

Requirements

Effective September 2026, Langara College Design Formation Diploma graduates may transition to the Bachelor of Design program at Emily Carr University of Art + Design, as follows: 

1. Students in good standing who complete the Design Formation Diploma at Langara with a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of B (3.00 on a 4.00 scale) or higher will automatically be accepted into year three (3) of the Bachelor of Design program at Emily Carr University in the Communication Design major. 

2. Students are eligible to receive up to 60 credits upon transfer. 

3. Students with a cumulative GPA of less than 3.00 will be considered for admission based on their academic standing and a required portfolio review. 

4. Transfer is subject to space availability in the program. 

5. Pathway for Langara College graduates who have completed the Design Formation program:
 

* Students must complete the Design History (3cr), Design Theory (3cr) and English (3cr) elective requirements and an additional 3 credit Design Theory, Design History or English course (ENGL 1123 or COMNS 1122 recommended), in order to recognize the 12.00 Block Critical Studies credits.
