International Students

International students who are interested in enrolling for courses under the Professional Bookkeeper program are required to comply with academic, English proficiency and study permit requirements.

Academic Requirements

BC Grade 12 Graduation (or equivalent); Or Successful completion of one full academic year OR successful completion of a minimum of 24 university credits at a recognized post-secondary institution. 

English Proficiency

English is the language of instruction at Langara College. You are required to demonstrate proficiency in the English language prior to admission to the Advanced Accounting program. You may demonstrate English language proficiency by one of the following:

  • Successful completion of English First Peoples 12, English Studies 12, or Literary Studies 12 (or equivalent) 
  • Successful completion of a post-secondary English or Communications course for which Langara College awards transfer credit 
  • A minimum “S” grade in Langara ENGL 1107 or 1110; Or a minimum “C” grade in ENGL 1120 
  • International Baccalaureate (IB) ENGL A (HL or SL) 2; Or IB ENGL LIT & PERFORM (SL) 2 
  • Advanced Placement (AP) ENGL LIT & COMP 2; Or AP ENGL LANG & COMP 2 
  • A minimum “C” grade in GCSE O-Level English or GCSE English Language B  
  • Successful completion of LEAP Level 8 (or equivalent) (see note a) 
  • Language Proficiency Index (LPI) 4 with essay 24 (see note a) 
  • IELTS Academic Overall 6.5 with no bands less than 6.0 (see note a) 
  • Duolingo English Test 110 (see note b) 
  • TOEFL (IBT) Overall: 80, Writing: 20, Reading: 20, Listening: 18, Speaking:18 (see note a) 
  • CAEL Overall 60, Essay: 60 (see note a) 

notes:

  1. Assessment test scores are valid for two years from the date they were taken.
  2. Duolingo test scores must be sent directly to Langara College (view submission instructions).

Study Permit

International students who want to study at Langara are required to have a study permit according to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). Visit the Langara Global website for information pertaining to international students. 

For further information about eligibility and application process, visit the IRCC website or call the IRCC Call Centre at 1.888.242.2100.

Please complete the International Student Admissions Application Form. Students who are requesting exemptions or prerequisite approval will also need to submit the Exemption/Prerequisite Approval Form.

Submit completed application form and $155 application fee:

  • Online through feeportal.langara.ca
  • In person, with cash, cheque, Visa or MasterCard: Continuing Studies, A Building
  • By mail with cheque: Langara College Continuing Studies, 100 West 49th Ave, Vancouver, BC V5Y2Z6 


Then, submit the following supporting documents to csaccounting@langara.ca 

  • Copy of work and/or study permit
  • Copy of English proficiency proof
  • Copy of transcripts from outside of Canada (if applicable)
  • Official transcripts from institutions within Canada (if applicable)
  • CPA Transcript Assessment (if applicable)

When your application has been approved, you will receive an email from Langara College to confirm your acceptance, with information on how to register for courses and pay tuition fees. 

Application Fee

There is a $155 non-refundable application fee, payable by Visa or Mastercard. 

Commitment Fee/Deposit

Students who require a study permit in order to study at Langara will need to pay $1500 non-refundable commitment fee in order to receive a Letter of Acceptance. You will need this Letter of Acceptance to apply for a study permit. Once you have a valid study permit, the $1500 deposit can be used towards your course fees. 

Students whose study permit application is denied by Immigration Canada can receive a refund on the $1500 commitment fee once they submit their current refusal letter from Immigration Canada.
