Admission Requirements

Academic Requirements 

Domestic Applicant: BC Grade 12 Graduation (or equivalent) or be 19 years of age or older   
 

International Applicant: BC Grade 12 Graduation (or equivalent); Or Successful completion of one full academic year OR successful completion of a minimum of 24 university credits at a recognized post-secondary intuition 

 

English Language Requirement 

  • Successful completion of English First Peoples 12, English Studies 12, or Literary Studies 12 (or equivalent) 
  • Successful completion of a post-secondary English or Communications course for which Langara College awards transfer credit 
  • A minimum “S” grade in Langara ENGL 1107 or 1110; Or a minimum “C” grade in ENGL 1120 
  • A minimum score of 2 on the Langara English Test (LET)  
  • International Baccalaureate (IB) ENGL A (HL or SL) 4; Or IB ENGL LIT & PERFORM (SL) 4 
  • Advanced Placement (AP) ENGL LIT & COMP 3; Or AP ENGL LANG & COMP 3 
  • A minimum “D” grade in GCSE O-Level English or GCSE English Language B  
  • Successful completion of LEAP Level 8 (or equivalent) (see note a) 
  • IELTS Academic Overall 6.5 with no bands less than 6.0 (see note a) 
  • Duolingo English Test 110 (see note b) 
  • TOEFL (IBT) Overall: 90, Writing: 22, Reading: 21, Listening: 22, Speaking: 21 (see note a) 
  • CAEL Overall 60, Essay: 60 (see note a) 

 

If you have completed at least four years of full-time secondary or post-secondary study in English, you may have met the English Language requirements. For a list of approved countries, refer to English Language Countries.

 

Notes:

a. Assessment test scores are valid for two years from the date they were taken.

b. Duolingo test scores must be sent directly to Langara College (view submission instructions). 

  

Additional Requirements

Portfolio Submission. Your portfolio must uploaded through the Applicant Portal while uploading your other required documents. You must include original and recent traditional and/or digital work. Please ensure that any traditional art is properly scanned or photographed clearly. We request a minimum of 8-10 samples and strongly suggest they demonstrate:

    • Realism from observation (ie. a portrait, your hand, an animal)
    • Perspective (ie. drawing of a room or building) 
    • Human form and structure through shading and colour rendering 
    • Personal art and design (ie. sketchbook pages, life drawing, finished art) 
  1. Letter of Intent. Please write a brief letter outlining your future plans and why you expect to successfully complete this program. This should be between 250 and 500 words.
