Vaisakhi parade: What to know before coming to campus on April 11
On Saturday, April 11, the local Sikh community will celebrate Vaisakhi with the annual parade and festival near campus. This year’s Vancouver Vaisakhi Parade will take place from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm in South Vancouver. Expect heavier traffic and more visitors in the area throughout the day.
How will it affect campus?
Parking on campus will be free for everyone on Saturday, April 11, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. There will be no reserved parking for students, employees or visitors that day.
Anyone heading to campus should plan ahead and consider transit where possible. Drivers should leave extra time and expect delays getting in and out of the area, in addition to current construction work on 49th Ave.
Vehicle access to campus on April 11
- 49th Avenue will be local traffic only between Cambie Street and Main Street during the parade.
- Traffic control staff will be stationed at Cambie Street and 49th Avenue and will allow eastbound local traffic through to access Langara campus. Students, employees and visitors will need to let staff know they are travelling to Langara, as other traffic will be redirected.
- Main Street will be closed between Marine Drive and 49th Avenue. Drivers approaching campus from the west should plan their route in advance and avoid this section of Main Street.
49 bus detour on April 11
- The 49 bus will be detoured on Saturday, April 11, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- Buses will not travel on 49th Avenue between Cambie Street and Knight Street.
- Suggested stops:
- 49 Dunbar (westbound): Students, employees and visitors are encouraged to get on or off the bus at the stop just west of Cambie Street on West 49th Avenue.
- 49 Metrotown (eastbound): Students, employees and visitors are encouraged to get on or off the bus either west of Cambie Street or on Cambie Street itself.
Please plan ahead to give yourself enough travel time and follow the physical signage near campus and any instructions from crew members
