Description
Students examine the nature, scope, sources, and general principles of criminal law in Canada. They review the history and evolution of Canadian criminal law and study the concepts of mens rea (the guilty mind) and actus reus (the guilty act). In this course, students also critically examine legislative policies expressed in the Criminal Code, analyze criminal responsibility, and review legal principles in relation to selected major offences and defences in Canadian law.

Priority registration in this course is offered to students admitted to the Diploma in Criminal Justice, Diploma in Criminal Justice (BBA Transfer Option), and Diploma in Criminology.
