Langara’s real estate courses are developed in collaboration with industry leaders and associations like BC Housing, BC Financial Services Authority, and the BC Non-Profit Housing Association. These partnerships ensure the curriculum stays current and aligned with the expectations of employers in the field.

“Students interested in housing development, construction, property management, and facility management will benefit immensely from our curriculum,” says Stefan Baune, instructor and CEO of Kiwanis North Shore Housing Society.

Programs prepare students for roles such as appraisers, building managers, and social housing specialists, while emphasizing community development and long-term sustainability.

Built for working professionals.

The programs are designed to accommodate working adults, with classes offered in the evenings and on weekends. This flexibility allows individuals to upskill or reskill without compromising their current employment.

Langara offers various certificate programs, including Builder Licence, Real Estate Trading Services, and Social Housing Management. These Stackable by Langara programs align with BC Housing requirements and industry standards through partnerships with provincial and national licensing bodies.

Tackle the real issues shaping B.C. housing.

Affordability and sustainability are central themes woven into the coursework. Baune encourages students to think beyond technical knowledge and consider how real estate impacts communities.

"Lack of affordability is a hot topic in British Columbia," he notes. "[Students must understand how to] provide a housing continuum that covers the needs of community members from shelter to home ownership."

Baune teaches the two main courses for the Short Certificate in Social Housing Management (PROP 1030 and PROP 1052) and is also CEO of the Kiwanis North Shore Housing Society. Through these courses, he offers students a realistic look at the challenges and rewards of working in public and affordable housing.

"[Many students] are unfamiliar with how challenging it is to work in the not-for-profit sector, with the restrictions and funding struggles we face," Baune explains. “This program gives them real-world context and tools to navigate those challenges.”

A curriculum that evolves with the industry.

The Stackable Real Estate and Construction courses provide a strong foundation in principles while emphasizing applied aspects of the subject matter. One of the unique aspects of Langara are the instructor-led courses that give students insight into the profession from instructors with the real-world experience beyond what can be found in a textbook.

"I update my curriculum annually to reflect changes in politics, building codes, and compliance with regulatory requirements,” says Baune. This approach enriches the learning experience and equips students with a comprehensive understanding of the industry.
