Outcomes & Objectives
The objective of the part-time Professional Bookkeeper Short Certificate program is to help prepare individuals for an entry level accounting position. The curriculum includes a mix of paper and software based applications to help graduates gain the practical skills required to obtain an entry level accounting/bookkeeper in small or medium-to-large business.
Upon completion of the Professional Bookkeeper Short Certificate program, graduates have a thorough understanding of bookkeeping principles and practices in both the manual and electronic environments including:
- Basic journal entries
- Error corrections
- Adjusting entries (accruals and deferrals)
- Bank reconciliation
- Basic accounting concepts
- Payroll
- Depreciation (book and tax)
- Merchandise inventory
Graduates of the Professional Bookkeeper program are well-suited for a wide variety of positions related to personal and business bookkeeping. Graduates may work in organizations of all sizes and in all industry sectors, nonprofit or profit as an employee or self-employed contractor.
