The Summer English Language Program (SELP) is an immersive, three-week course in language and cultural study at Langara College, a public institution in Vancouver, Canada. The program combines classroom learning with off-campus experiences in Vancouver’s multicultural West Coast setting.

SELP offers: 

  • 25 hours per week of classroom instruction and educational outings
  • Small, supportive classes with interactive, project-based learning
  • A focus on speaking and effective communication
  • The chance to experience life on a vibrant and diverse college campus
  • An opportunity to interact with local students
  • The chance to live with a local homestay family

Sample Schedule

In addition to having English Language Instruction (ELI), students join instructors on off-campus excursions to popular local attractions such as the Capilano Suspension Bridge, Granville Island, Kayaking in Deep Cove, the Museum of Vancouver, and the Vancouver Aquarium. Below is a sample itinerary.

Application for Admission

Applications will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis until early July and must be accompanied by a non-refundable deposit of $250. The balance of payment is due one month prior to the start of the program.

Students must be 18 years of age or older to participate in the program.

Homestay

Homestay accommodation is optional, but it is an important part of the language immersion program. Students stay with carefully selected English-speaking families who are interested in sharing their time and culture so that students can practice their English and learn about West Coast living. Students will take part in daily family activities. Some language assignments will involve discussions with your host family.
