Department of Recreation Studies Recreation Internships
Recreation Students and Industry Partners
Each year, our Recreation Leadership diploma students complete a hands-on, 14-week field-based internship with organizations across the recreation, sport, health and community sectors. These internships provide students with invaluable real-world experience while supporting host organizations with fresh energy, knowledge, and skills.
In their final semester, students choose their own internship placement with an agency, either from a list of placements available, or they negotiate their own.
Examples of organizations who have hosted interns in the past include:
- Provincial Sports Organizations (Sport BC, Pacific Sport)
- Municipal Recreation (Surrey Sport & Leisure, Trout Lake Community Centre)
- Entrepreneurial Businesses (LifeWorks, RecGroup.ca)
- Not-for-Profit Organizations (Heart & Stroke Foundation, BC Disability Sports)
- Rehabilitation Centres (GF Strong, Sunny Hill Centre)
- Private Clubs (Arbutus Club, Shaughnessy Golf & Country Club)
- Public / Private Partnership Organizations (Planet Ice, Canlan Ice Sports)
- School Districts (Bayview Community School, Windermere Secondary)
- Language Schools (Bodwell College)
- Neighbourhood Houses (Augustine House, South Vancouver Neighbourhood House)
