Students may transfer all of the above courses toward the UBC Diploma in Urban Land Economics and the UBC Bachelor of Business in Real Estate. Students with a business degree may apply two courses (i.e. Real Estate Appraisal and Real Estate Investment Analysis) toward the UBC Post-Graduate Certificate in Real Property Valuation, an accelerated pathway to the AACI designation from the Appraisal Institute of Canada. This option may appeal to Langara College Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) graduates.

BC Financial Services Authority (BCFSA)

BC Financial Services Authority (BCFSA) is responsible for the licensing process in BC for various professions. Students have the option of completing specific Langara College courses to become eligible to request a waiver from the applicable UBC licensing course. Students would be responsible for meeting all other BCFSA requirements (English Proficiency, licensing examination, applied practice course) with BCFSA directly.

Trading Services Licensing

Students can complete the following 4 courses to be exempt from the UBC Real Estate Trading Services Licensing Course:

  • PROP 1005 Real Estate Appraisal
  • PROP 1023 Real Estate Finance
  • PROP 1024 Real Estate Mathematics

Rental Management Services Licensing

Students who complete the Property Management Certificate program and the following courses may be exempt from the UBC Rental Property Management Licensing Course:

  • PROP 1004 Real Estate Law
  • PROP 1005 Real Estate Appraisal
  • PROP 1020 Real Estate Investment Analysis

Appraisal Institute of Canada

The Appraisal Institute of Canada awards two professional designations: the Canadian Residential Appraiser (CRA) and the Accredited Appraiser Canadian Institute, Professional Appraiser (AACI, P.App.).

The following three courses may be applied toward the CRA designation:

  • PROP 1004 Real Estate Law
  • PROP 1005 Real Estate Appraisal
  • PROP 1022 Residential Construction

The above courses, plus the following two courses, may be applied toward the AACI designation:

  • PROP 1020 Real Estate Investment Analysis
  • PROP 1024 Real Estate Mathematics

Note: UBC administers the entire Appraisal Institute of Canada Education Program across all of Canada on a distance education basis. British Columbia Real Estate Association (BCREA)

Credential Eligibility

To qualify for the certification, students must complete 306 hours of course work. Successful completion of all the required courses with a minimum C+ grade in each course is required. All requirements must be completed within four years of starting the program. Students can complete the program as quick as 3 terms (1 year).

Courses may be taken individually as long as individual course prerequisites are met. Students completing the certificate do not need to apply to the program as registration is by course. There are no academic requirements for students to start the program.
