When Anton Lobashkov left his home country of Russia over a decade ago, he couldn’t have imagined where his path would lead. Now, as a graduate of the Langara College Registered Massage Therapist program (RMT) and owner of Massage Works in Vancouver, Anton’s story is one of transformation and perseverance.

A Search for Something More

Anton’s journey began long before he arrived in Vancouver. He began his career in business management but found himself searching for greater fulfillment. “I had everything, but I wasn’t happy,” he recalls. After qualifying as an RMT in Russia, Anton sought to further his education. One internet search changed the path of his life.

“I asked Google what the best RMT program in the world was and it pointed me to Vancouver, to Langara.”

Langara College’s comprehensive two-year program stood out for its rigorous focus on anatomy, physiology, and professional development. “No other program I researched was as thorough,” Anton notes. He was particularly impressed by the emphasis on business expectations and professional boundaries, which helped him adjust to Canadian practices and standards.

A Career Becomes a Calling

After graduation, Anton’s dedication and skill brought him back to Langara—this time as an instructor. He found great pride in being able to give back to the school that brought him to Canada and set him on a new path. “I’m passionate about showing students how to use their body mechanics effectively to avoid injury,” he says. His teachings draw on diverse experiences, including time spent learning traditional techniques from a monk in Thailand. “It’s all about teaching students in a way to ensure longevity in this physically demanding career.”

Recently, Anton opened Massage Works, his own clinic in Vancouver. The clinic reflects his commitment to high-quality, client-centered care and wellness education.

When asked for advice for aspiring massage therapists, Anton emphasizes two key points: passion and perseverance. “It sounds silly, but you have to enjoy giving massages,” he says. “If you don’t like touching people, it’s not the career for you.”

“You need to be ready to work hard—the program is challenging but worth it.”

Anton’s journey from an unfulfilled business professional to a thriving registered massage therapist, educator, and business owner is an inspiring story of following one’s passion and embracing change.
