"Design Formation was way more than learning the foundations of design; it was an experience filled with creativity, laughter, and lifelong friendships. When Design Formation started, I was so nervous. I wasn't sure how I was going to adapt to college life, especially design school after high school. The teachers welcomed everyone with open arms, and I knew they would be not only good teachers but good people whom I could talk to with ease. The learning experience was so easy to grasp, and it didn’t feel like I was just sitting and listening to someone talk for hours. There was always so much discussion with peers and hands-on learning. The community within Design Formation was so close, and everyone was so willing to give good and constructive critiques, which all made us better designers. We all carried our own strengths and weren’t afraid to share them with each other. The professors truly wanted us to succeed and made sure that we expressed ourselves through each and every project. I am so grateful for the Design Formation program and how they’ve prepared me to take a further step into my post-secondary journey.
I am heading into my fourth and final year of the Bachelor of Interior Design program at the Wilson School of Design at KPU. Design Formation gave me both hard and soft skills to succeed in my current institution. I was taught how to articulate my design decisions and perspectives, grow my teamwork and leadership skills, learn so much software, and ultimately be an integral and thoughtful designer. I believe that the skills Design Formation has given me have allowed me to push the boundaries of my projects at the Wilson School of Design. Even though Design Formation wasn’t solely focused on interior design and architecture, I was still able to learn beyond the basics, which has made me a successful student at KPU. I am proud to say that I am a Design Formation alumna, and I encourage everyone who is thinking about going into design that Design Formation is the perfect place to start."
