Career Opportunities

The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) provides students with a broad base of knowledge and skills to practice nursing in today’s and tomorrow’s complex health care system. With a focus on caring and health promotion, students learn to work with individuals, families, communities, and health professionals in a variety of practice settings. The program assists students to develop sensitivity to people’s experiences with health and healing. Educational methods emphasize student and faculty interactions and individual learning processes.

Registered Nurses (RNs) work in the public interest. There is an ever-increasing demand for RNs and there are many opportunities for graduates of the Langara College BSN program. Graduates may find employment in:

  • acute care agencies in areas such as medicine, surgery, orthopedics, burns, trauma, intensive care, and coronary care
  • maternal-child health
  • mental health
  • occupational health
  • pediatrics
  • public health
  • tele-health

Employment opportunities increase with further education and work experience leading to careers in:

  • education
  • advanced practice
  • research
  • administration
  • public health policy

Specialized Learning Pathways

BSN Learning Pathways Program

Learning Pathways are structured educational tracks that students can apply to during their BSN program. These pathways are designed for students who are interested in working in specialized areas of nursing, such as Emergency or Critical Care. They aim to help nursing graduates transition more quickly into these specialty areas by providing additional education and training alongside the standard BSN curriculum.

Learning Pathways typically include opportunities such as Employed Student Nursing (ESN) positions, additional coursework offered by an academic institution or through the Health Authority, and expanded clinical experiences. They also include employment opportunities after graduation and a supported transition into the specialty area. In some cases, students may receive full or partial certification in their chosen specialty.

Further information regarding learning pathways will be provided to BSN students during the program. Information can also be accessed via the student web board.
