Students with a business degree may apply two courses (i.e. Real Estate Appraisal and Real Estate Investment Analysis) toward the UBCPost-Graduate Certificate in Real Property Valuation, an accelerated pathway to the AACIdesignation from the Appraisal Institute of Canada. This option may appeal to Langara CollegeBachelor of Business Administration (BBA) graduates.

Appraisal Institute of Canada

The Appraisal Institute of Canada awards two professional designations: the Canadian Residential Appraiser (CRA) and the Accredited Appraiser Canadian Institute, Professional Appraiser (AACI, P.App.).

The following three courses in Langara’s Real Property Analyst Certificate program may be applied toward the CRA designation:

  • PROP1005 Real Estate Appraisal
  • PROP1022 Residential Construction
  • PROP1004 Real Estate Law

The above courses, plus the following two courses, may be applied toward the AACI designation:

  • PROP1024 Real Estate Mathematics
  • PROP1020 Real Estate Investment Analysis

Note that UBC administers the entire Appraisal Institute of Canada Education Program across all of Canada on a distance education basis. Langara College offers the above courses on a classroom basis to serve local students. For complete information on the Appraisal Institute of Canada Education Program, visit www.realestate.ubc.ca. Real Estate Institute of British Columbia

The Diploma in Urban Land Economics (UBC) meets the education requirement for the RI designation of the Real Estate Institute of British Columbia. Students may complete up to five of the eleven Diploma courses in a classroom format at Langara.

Appraisal students may become a professional member of the Institute and be awarded the RI (Appraisal) designation upon completion of the Institute's education and experience requirements. Completion of the appraisal specialization in the UBC Diploma in Urban Land Economics (DULE) program fulfills the education requirement. The entire UBC DULE program consists of eleven courses. All five Langara courses listed above may be applied toward the UBC DULE (appraisal specialization).

Note: There is no degree requirement for the RI designation. To fulfill the experience requirement for the RI (Appraisal) designation students must work in the appraisal field for a minimum of three years (full time).

Professional Association of Managing Agents

All courses within the Property Management Certificate program, the Professional Building Manager Certificate program, and the Real Property Analyst Certificate program are eligible for credit toward the Certified Professional Residential Property Manager (CPRPM) designation awarded by the Professional Association of Managing Agents (PAMA). Strata Property Agents of British Columbia

The Strata Property Agents of British Columbia (SPABC) is a professional association comprised of approximately forty strata management companies in British Columbia. SPABC strongly encourages recently licensed strata managers to complete the “PROP1043 Advanced Strata Management” course offered by Langara College. This is an applied course designed for strata managers in their first year of employment with a strata management company. Experienced strata managers also take the course as a refresher and a review of critical topics.

Rental Management Licensing

Students who complete the following courses at Langara College are eligible to write the Rental Property Management License Exam:

  • PROP1001 Property Management - Residental

Institute of Real Estate Management

Two courses within the Real Property Analyst Certificate program (Real Estate Law and Real Estate Mathematics) may be applied toward the CPM designation, awarded by the Institute of Real Estate Management through the Real Estate Institute of Canada.

Students who hold the ARM designation (Accredited Resident Manager) from the Institute of Real Estate Management may be granted elective credit toward the Langara College Professional Building Manager Certificate.

Institute of Municipal Assessors

Real Estate Appraisal and Real Estate Mathematics fulfill two of five course requirements for the UBC Certificate in Real Property Assessment. This certificate meets the core educational requirement leading to the Institute of Municipal Assessors’ Associate Member (AIMA) and Accredited Member (MIMA) designations. British Columbia Non-Profit Housing Association

The Social Housing Management Certificate was developed through a partnership between Langara College and the BC Non-Profit Housing Association (BCNPHA). BCNPHA represents almost 400 housing societies located around the province. The certificate program is designed for staff, managers, and volunteers engaged in social housing operations or development.

The Social Housing Management Certificate program at Langara College gives students a broad base of academic and practical knowledge, and cultivates important management skills directly related to social housing. To support ongoing professional development among social housing practitioners, BCNPHA offers numerous seminars and workshops each year, in addition to organizing a major annual conference each November. Graduates of Regular Studies’ Accounting DiplomaBusiness Management DiplomaFinancial Management Diploma, or the BBA degree program may apply selected courses in economics and accounting toward the Continuing Studies’ Real Property Analyst Certificate.
