Vancouver, BC – snəw̓eyəɬ leləm̓ Langara College is proud to welcome Dr. Joy Walcott-Francis to her new role as Director, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion at snəw̓eyəɬ leləm̓ Langara College.
Joy’s passion for justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion (JEDI) comes from her experience navigating post-secondary spaces as a woman of colour and recognizing the need to develop and implement strategic and targeted approaches that address systems that perpetuate social inequity. With over a decade of local and global experience, she is skilled in leading, shaping, and effecting systemic change within post-secondary institutions.
While teaching in Langara’s Department of Kinesiology, Joy continues to be actively involved in committees and initiatives that allow her to collaborate with various departments in efforts to develop safer spaces, and to guide new College practices that engender a greater sense of belonging.
In her role as Social Planner with the City of Vancouver, Joy leads the strategic development of a long-term comprehensive action plan to address systemic barriers related to anti-Black racism, which exist in Vancouver. She regularly collaborates with internal and external stakeholders and provides direction on policies and programs to foster JEDI for Black and African Diaspora staff and communities in Vancouver.
As the first Director, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion for snəw̓eyəɬ leləm̓ Langara College, we are excited to welcome Joy to the important work that she will lead.
