Virtual Learning Supports

We hope you are excited about your new summer courses starting soon. For some of you, this may be your first-time taking classes online and you may be feeling a little nervous about it. We are here to help!

During this week and next, the Virtual Learning Support Service is offering information sessions to help you get ready for a successful summer term. Our Learning Support team includes Langara instructors, staff from the library, learning strategists, and students from the Peer Supported Learning Program. In our Learning Support Information Sessions, we will offer advice and refer you to supports that will be available over the summer term. We will cover topics such as:

  • How to be a successful student online
  • Online etiquette tips and best practices for communicating with your instructors
  • Strategies for effective time management
  • Summer library offerings and counselling services workshops

At the end of the session you will have the chance to ask questions of our panel discussion or meet one-on-one with a member from the Learning Support Team to ask questions and share any ideas or concerns. Click Virtual Learning Support for schedule information or email us at learningsupport@langara.ca. We hope you will consider attending one of our sessions in the coming weeks, so we can help you to get your summer term off to a strong start.

Community Cupboard

Thanks to the generosity of donors, Langara’s on-campus food bank, the Community Cupboard, will continue to run this summer term out of The Hub. The Community Cupboard provides students with one week’s worth of non-perishable food items. Students can access this service at The Hub (A140) between 11:00 am – 1:00 pm through August 31.

We are pleased to announce that applications to our Student Work Assistance Program (SWAP) and Work on Campus (WOC) Program for the Summer 2020 semester are now open. These programs allow students to gain valuable work experience while contributing to College operations and supporting departments across campus.  For Summer 2020, SWAP and WOC students will be able to work remotely (off-campus) provided they are living in Canada while working for the College. Please review the eligibility criteria for each program prior to applying.

Apply to SWAP Summer 2020 (closes August 31, 2020)

Apply to WOC Summer 2020 (closes August 31, 2020)

Please note: Even if you have worked as a SWAP or WOC student in the past, you will need to reapply through our website. Students must apply each semester.
