The Office for Student Engagement, in partnership with Financial Aid, provides financial assistance, support and recognition for students in a variety of ways.  We encourage students to review the criteria for each award and apply by the deadline. 

 

Beyond the Classroom 

Do you enjoy attending conferences, taking training sessions or leading fundraising campaigns? 

The Beyond the Classroom Award is a pathway to non-academic opportunities that allows students to grow personally and professionally while increasing their value as local and global citizens. 

Students who have incurred expenses of $500 or more for registering and attending professional development opportunities such as those outlined below, are encouraged to submit an application and apply for reimbursement through this award.

  
Examples of Beyond the Classroom Award initiatives include:  
  • Student led initiatives such as topic-specific public forums, fundraising campaigns to support internal fundraising drives. 
  • Travel costs associated with representing Langara College at student forums, conferences, or award ceremonies.
  • Additional training or certification that fulfills the requirements needed for assorted volunteer opportunities such as first aid and coaching certifications for afterschool programs. 

Award Requirements 

  • Student (s) must be enrolled in a minimum of two courses through the Regular studies division. 
  • No minimum CGPA required.
  • Awards to students will be determined through an application process administered by the Student Engagement department.

  • Upload all receipts for expenses incurred (minimum $500)

Jade Volunteering Excellence Award

The Jade Volunteering Excellence Award recognizes extensive and exemplary off and/or on-campus contribution in volunteering & leadership. VOLT volunteers who have contributed extensively and meet the following requirements are encouraged to apply: 

 

Criteria: 

  • Volunteering must be without compensation or part of a program of study
  • Preference is given to those registered in 9 credits at the time of application
  • Students must be enrolled full-time in regular studies and be a registered member of VOLT
  • An application is required
  • Recipient must have a minimum CGPA of 2.5

Chartwells Student Engagement Award 

Criteria: 

  • Awarded to a student enrolled full time in a Regular Studies program at the time of application
  • have a minimum CGPA 2.5
  • actively volunteering, leading or supporting campus initiatives led by the Office for Student Engagement
  • Letter of application to be submitted by students to the Office for Student Engagement detailing a timeline and details of activities while at Langara.
  • The recipient will be selected based on greatest body of work and their impact in support of the Office for Student Engagement. The student will demonstrate teamwork, service, and leadership within the Langara community.
