Overview:

The Minoru Seniors Society delivers innovative and exceptional programs and services in partnership with the City of Richmond.The Minoru Seniors Society is a registered non-profit society that has been active in the Richmond Community since 1986. The Society’s mandate is to enhance the quality of life for Richmond seniors through the provision of ongoing recreation opportunities and services. The Society operates in partnership with the City of Richmond to deliver these services, and has a large volunteer base that provides a quality experience at the Centre. The Minoru Seniors Society has an active Board of Directors elected each fall. Board Members work alongside City staff to meet the needs of an ever-changing, diverse seniors population.

 

Wellness Connections Volunteer Host

Position Description:

To assist the participants (as well as staff and presenter/instructor) to engage and be involved in the class. Wellness Connections is a recreation and leisure outreach program that is geared forisolated and frail seniors in the community. Seniors receive recreation experiences and leisurecounselling to develop the tools to participate independently in community leisure and recreation.- Accompany seniors on the Community Leisure Transportation bus to and from their homes and theSenior Centre.- Guide clients to show how to board and exit the bus, help client to secure walker if needed- Set up program areas- Assist instructor with equipment and support clients during exercises, as well to giveencouragement to clients- Assist the Wellness Connections Program Lead/Facilitator with ensuring the flow of the program- Engage with participants in activities and create a welcoming, positive environment.- Accompany clients during outdoor tours of facility, gardens, museums etc.- Help serve lunches and coffee- Accompany clients to outside the washrooms/being mindful of where clients are at all times

 

Required Skills and Experience:

- Successful completion of a Criminal Record Check.- Successful application within Citywide database www.icanhelp.richmond.ca- Able bodied and good physical health- Patient, caring and good listener- Be adaptive and supportive to those who have extra mobility challenges i.e. Walkers, canes- Ability to work effectively with the senior population- Ability to take direction- Ability to work independently and in teams- A friendly, caring, and outgoing and positive personality- Physical ability to lift supplies, tables and chairs safely- Physical ability to stand for a minimum of one hour- Encourage participation
