GLOCAL is a non-profit, non-partisan grassroot initiative that aims to address civic information accessibility, information overload, and insufficient civic information. The nature of the long-term goal at GLOCAL is to provide an on-demand digital civic information delivery platform that connects Canadian with legislators, governments, civil society organizations, communities, and other types of political stakeholders in Canada.

Since 1971 BFL has supported newcomer and vulnerable families with a vision of becoming a destination where people grow, and families get stronger. Today we offer licensed child care, LINC-child Minding Programs, parenting and individual support groups, family drop-ins programs, pregnancy outreach, frontline community outreach, family life education programs, and counselling for women, youth and children who have experienced trauma and abuse. BFL provides safe spaces for families to grow their networks, connection to community and overcome barriers to settlement and integration. We’re working everyday to make this a more inclusive, welcoming and safe community for all.

The Vancouver Folk Music Festival is a three day event that happens every July in Jericho Beach Park. We are a celebration of local, national and international artists performing diverse ranges of folk and world music. Volunteers are the backbone of the weekend; last year we had 1000 volunteers with us participating in over 40 committees to help with all aspects of festival weekend operations. The event is a true coming together of the music community to put on an unforgettable summer weekend! The 2024 festival dates are July 19th-21st.

The Mount Pleasant Community Policing Centre (MPCPC) is a volunteer-driven nonprofit committed to creating a safe and inclusive neighbourhood for everyone while supporting the community's most vulnerable. As a liaison between the VPD and Community Agencies, we prioritize information and education referral services, overdose awareness, de-escalation, road safety, community cleanups and community outreach. Volunteering with the MPCPC is about bringing a community together and making a difference.

 KidStart is a one-to-one mentoring program for children and youth, in the Greater Vancouver area, who face serious difficulties in their lives.
KidStart assigns children and youth with a volunteer mentor, who serves as a consistent role model; someone who plans activities and provides the young person with opportunities to experience success.
As a mentor you will meet weekly for about 2-3 hours with the young person that you are assigned and engage them in fun recreational activities.

Learning Buddies Network is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping elementary school students develop essential literacy and math skills through free one-on-one, after-school mentoring in a fun group setting. We reach children who otherwise would not have the help they need. Our goals are to enhance self-esteem through improvement in academic skills and to ignite a passion for learning in a safe and caring environment.

The Kerrisdale Oakridge Marpole Community Policing Centre is Southwest Vancouver’s Community Policing Centre, connecting residents, businesses and agencies with the Vancouver Police Department, offering a variety of crime prevention services, education and safety initiatives.
We mobilize the efforts of volunteers, community members and the Vancouver Police Department to promote safety, justice and understanding in accordance with Vancouver’s Community Policing mandate.

As a respected non-profit, charitable organization, we recognize Indigenous youth as experts in their own lives, and strive to provide youth with programs and opportunities that are relevant and meaningful to them.

  • You are energetic, and able to relate well to youth

  • You are goal-oriented, and motivated to work with youth on skills development and confidence building

  • You successfully complete a Criminal Records Check, specific to working with the Vulnerable Sector

  • You are able to commit to a mentorship lasting a minimum of 1 year, but preferably long-term

  • You are able to devote 2-4 hours per week to meet with your mentee

We are a non-profit, charitable, volunteer organization. We work in partnership with the VPD and work closely with them on many public safety initiatives. We conduct foot patrols, bike patrols, speed watch as well as speed and distracted driving enforcement. Many of our volunteers plan to pursue a career in law enforcement and gain valuable direct hands on experience by volunteering with us.

Theatre Under the Stars (TUTS) is a not for profit society that entertains families through popular musical theatre shows while providing a vibrant outlet and training ground to develop amateur performers and technicians both young and old. Every year, we rely on a team of over 200 volunteers to make our seasons a success! We recruit for both front-of-house (bartending, ushering, box office, ticket scanning) and backstage crew (wardrobe and spotlight).

United for Literacy (formerly Frontier College) is a national charitable literacy organization, established in 1899 on the belief that literacy is a right. We work collaboratively with community-based agencies across Canada to provide targeted, innovative literacy and numeracy support where it's needed most. Each year, over 31,000 children, youth, and adults participate in our programs in more than 160 communities throughout the country.
Volunteer as a learning partner in one of our community partner programs in the Lower Mainland. Choose to work one-on-one or in group settings with kids, youth, or adults. Work directly with learners on their homework assignments, life skills, and other engaging, inclusive, and fun learning activities.
On average, tutors spend 2-4 hrs per week volunteering. Programs are located in Burnaby, Vancouver, Surrey, and New Westminster. Some virtual options are also available!

We are the longest standing rape crisis centre in Canada. Since 1973, our group has responded to close to 46,000 women seeking our support in their escape from male violence. Since we opened our transition house in 1981, we have housed over 3,000 women and over 2,600 children.

Public Service Organizations

Mental Health Ambassadors participate in promoting mental health and well-being to Langara students and running outreach events and initiatives for Langara student community. Mental Health Ambassadors increase the emotional and psychological well-being of the student population and act as a bridge between student services and students. Ambassadors support education and well-being events on campus for Langara students as well as participate in campus events like Long Night Against Procrastination, De-Stress Fest, and others.

The VOLT Student Volunteer program empowers Langara students to connect with rewarding volunteer opportunities on campus and in the community. The program promotes community engagement, social awareness, and student development through volunteerism and can help students make new connections, learn new skills, gain experience, all while giving back to the community.

Did you know that if you are a current Langara student and a registered member of the VOLT program, you can gain recognition for your unpaid volunteer hours, on or off campus?  These hours must be completed for a not-for-profit, charitable or public service organzation.
