With nine months in Canada to his name and years of prior experience volunteering and living for others, Philippines national, Noel Lanto moved to Canada for his family and now works as a Global Student Ambassador at Langara Global. Noel values the importance of volunteering and attributes it to his dedication of living for others.

“I believe that volunteering gives meaning to life. We have to contribute to our society for a better world.”

While in the Philippines, Noel worked with an organization called Gawad Kalinga, building houses for the less fortunate, and hosting food banks. “I tried to help out as much as I could,” he says.

Now as a VOLT volunteer, Noel works as a Student Sustainability Ambassador. Noel says the world needs to be left in better shape for the next generation, and after hearing about the vision of the SSA program, he immediately jumped on board for the way it aligned with his personal values.

“It’s so important that we prepare the world for the next generation and being part of the SSA program does that.”

The Sustainability Student Ambassador program provides leadership experience for Langara students interested in engaging the community in sustainable practices and making major contributions to social development and environmental protection. Ambassadors will receive training and can envision, develop, and execute projects related to sustainability.
Noel believes more people should engage with the people around us and embrace the culture shock that comes with an unfamiliar environment. He says it is important to reach out, learn from the people around, and grow together as a community.
