Photography Database Volunteer

Stanley Park Ecology Society (SPES) promotes awareness of and respect for the natural world through collaborative leadership in environmental education, research, and conservation in Stanley Park. We are seeking a volunteer to support the management of our photography image database, Flickr. Applicants should be experienced in and have an operational knowledge of the administrative functions of Flickr, as well as an ability to properly operate the plugins within the Lightroom program (which act as publishing agents for the image collection to Flickr). Additionally, a working knowledge of the publishing plugins for Twitter, Facebook and Instagram used within Lightroom is also required.

Photography
• Proficient in the use of DSLR/SLR camera equipment; specifically in the proper use of the camera in Manual, Shutter Priority or Aperture Priority settings;
• Proficient in safe and ethical photographic techniques when it comes to wildlife;
• Ability to quickly sort through images, selecting the ones that best represent the subject or activity;
• Working knowledge of photographic release forms and how to draft them;
• Ability to adhere to SPES’s photographic policies and standards;

Computer and Database
• Basic Microsoft computer skills required including ability to create PDFs;
• Ability to create PNG files using Adobe Photoshop for the use in image watermarks, and being able to develop watermarks for individual image usage;
• Ability to lead overall strategy, implementation and workflow of the Digital Asset Management system for SPES;
• Ability to oversee the Digital Asset Management system and facilitate the uploading of assets as well as maintaining and upgrading the system;
• Ability to register internal and external users to the Digital Asset Management system based on permissions;
• Ability to facilitate retrieval and dispersal/publication of previously catalogued images;
• Proficient in maintaining accurate procedures and records for the system;
• Ability to archive assets as necessary.
Lightroom
• Proficient in the operation of Adobe Lightroom; specifically in the Library and Develop Modules. Applicant must be able to create metadata pre-sets, create keywords and keyword sets, and be able to update/record/adjust all other EXIF/IPTC data on images within the database. As well, the applicant must be able to edit photos within the Develop Module. This would include being able to properly crop images, adjust temperature, saturation, clarity, brightness and exposure values. Being able to properly eliminate image noise as well as adjust shadows and highlights and complete other visual corrections;
• Proficient in assigning appropriate metadata for assets to ensure accurate usage rights;
• Proficient in the processing of raw images;
• Ability to create organizational folder hierarchies for image classifications and adhere to current procedures and standards currently developed for the organization of SPES’s image collection;
• Proficient in the professional operation of Zenfolio and Flickr accounts which include being able to create, populate and maintain albums, galleries, photostreams and other image viewing platforms, changing viewing permissions, maintaining a Flickr Group page, organizing online events and contests, bulk editing of images, creating viewer accounts, and other functions necessary for the effective viewing and distribution of images within SPES’s database, and for the promotion of SPES related events;
• Ability to operate Friedl Lightroom publishing plugins for Lightroom; including Facebook, Twitter, Zenfolio, Flickr, and Instagram.

General
• Interest in photographing the Park’s flora and fauna and holds a basic knowledge to accurately identify taxa with the use of field guides and online resources;
• Ability to liaise between SPES and various scientific experts with regards to image subject identification.
