To students, staff, and faculty:

There was an incident on campus last night and Vancouver Police Department (VPD) attended immediately. Two individuals on campus were threatened with a firearm and were robbed of electronic equipment. Given the report of a firearm, our lockdown protocol was executed. VPD secured the campus and the lockdown was lifted after approximately one hour.

Shortly after, VPD arrested a suspect off campus and he remains in custody.

As a reminder, we have security on campus 24/7, and they can be reached at 604.562.1011 at any time. Langara’s Emergency Lockdown procedures are posted on the website and we encourage our community to review them.

We thank Vancouver Police and our Security team for their professional and rapid response, and are pleased the situation was resolved without injury. We also thank our students, staff, and faculty for their cooperation with the lockdown, and their patience and understanding while information became available.

We continue to debrief with our leadership team and will update the community with any further developments.
