Vancouver, BC – Langara College is pleased to announce its 48th convocation ceremony and the installation of its newest president and CEO, Dr. Lane Trotter. The concomitant ceremonies take place on June 4 and 5, 2014, at Langara’s main campus on 49th Street. More than 1300 students are accepting their diplomas, degrees, certificates, and citations at the ceremonies.
Dr. Trotter delivered the President’s address to graduates following his installation ceremony this morning. Trotter joined Langara College as its third president on January 20, 2014, following 22 years in higher education at BCIT, St. Clair College in Windsor, Ontario, and most recently Fanshawe College in London, Ontario, as well as in various positions at BC’s Ministry of Advanced Education.
“It is with humility that I assume this role,” says Trotter. “I’m honoured to be tasked with supporting and adding to the work of the retired and current faculty, staff, and administrators who have made Langara one of the best colleges in Canada.” Trotter earned his Doctorate of Education from Simon Fraser University and holds a Master of Public Administration from the University of Victoria.
The College is also conferring Emeritus Awards to James Johnstone Denholm, Patricia McKenzie, and Norman Olenick for their outstanding contributions to teaching, service, and leadership. The ceremonies are being livestreamed at http://www.langara.bc.ca/registration-and-records/graduation/live/ .
