he Studio 58/Risky Nights production of Isolde N. Barron's What a Drag!

Vancouver, BC. The Studio 58/Risky Nights production of Isolde N. Barron's What a Drag!, about the on and off stage antics during a drag show fundraiser, played to sold-out houses at Langara College in October and achieved a milestone for the Risky Nights series—an unprecedented amount of money was brought in at the door, half of which was donated to Out in SchoolsOut in Schools brings queer films to local high schools to facilitate discussion with youth on bullying, homophobia and stereotypes, and gives youth a safe space to explore these issues. This organization aims to increase understanding through education to combat the issues threatening the safety of our classrooms for all students. The idea to support Out in Schools was proposed by this Risky Nights collective and we are very proud of their work and our patrons who gave so generously.

Cameron Mackenzie who directed What a Drag! had this to say, "The 4th term students at Studio 58/Langara College and I are thrilled that our show was so successful and that we were able to raise as much as we did. The string of gay teenagers committing suicide is evidence that now more than ever the work that Out in Schools is doing is imperative, not only to queer youth who might be at risk, but every single person in that youth's life who loves and cares for them and who would be deeply affected by their suicide. I am very pleased that we can offer any amount to this vital organization."

Executive Director for Out on Screen, Drew Dennis comments, "Out in Schools is deeply touched by the generosity of Isolde, Studio 58 and Langara College for their contribution of $1,330.00. This will make a direct difference to the lives of queer youth across the province. Through Out in Schools we address issues of homophobic bullying through innovative film workshops. We reach out, not only to queer youth who may feel totally alone and isolated, but also to the other students in the class."

What a Drag! lives on... We are thrilled to announce a benefit performance of What a Drag! on Sunday, December 12th at 8:00pm at The Cobalt, 917 Main Street. All proceeds to benefit Out in Schools, $10 suggested donation @ the door.
