Convo2024.pngVancouver, BC – This week, the Langara College community proudly watched as over 1,600 Langara graduates from over 130 diverse programs crossed the grand stage of the Queen Elizabeth Theatre, June 18-20, 2024. Langara’s 58th annual convocation ceremonies featured Musqueam drumming, led by Alec Dan, Langara Theatre Arts student Emma Abbott singing her rendition of the national anthem, O Canada; an address from Dr. Paula Burns, Langara College President and CEO; a convocation address from a graduate; the announcement of Emeritus and Graduation Award recipients; the presentation of graduates; and a welcome to all graduates as new alumni. 

At each ceremony, Dr. Burns congratulated the graduates, and said "The Langara College convocation ceremonies symbolize the culmination of our students' hard work and dedication," said Dr. Paula Burns, Langara College President and CEO. "We are immensely proud of our graduates and their achievements, and we look forward to witnessing their future success and contributions to society."  

Langara College's convocation ceremonies serve as a pivotal milestone in the academic journey of graduates, recognizing their accomplishments and marking the beginning of their professional or future academic endeavours. The diverse range of programs offered at Langara College ensures that each graduate emerges with the knowledge and skills to excel in their chosen fields.  

Nine graduates received awards for their outstanding academic achievements and commitment to community service.    

Langara proudly announced the conferral of the 2024 Emeritus Awards celebrating distinguished service. Emeritus is an honourary title given to retiring or retired faculty or professional staff to recognize their outstanding contribution to teaching, research, service, or leadership in their professional field. This year’s recipient is Darrell Kean, Faculty Emeritus, Criminal Justice. 

At the close of each ceremony, Simone Le Blanc, Executive Director, College Advancement welcomed graduates to the Langara alumni family that is now over 115,000 strong.
