Vancouver, BC – Langara’s Registered Massage Therapy (RMT) program has confirmed accreditation from the Canadian Massage Therapy Council for Accreditation (CMTCA). Achieving accreditation ensures that RMT students will ​continue to write the College of Massage Therapy of British Columbia (CMTBC) board licensing exams and practice professionally. The program was previously recognized by the CMTBC and has now transitioned to national accreditation.

The program received a three-year accreditation cycle, the maximum cycle granted on a first-time accreditation with the CMTCA, and achieved an accreditation score of 370 / 380.

“Achieving accreditation with the CMTCA, the national accrediting body for massage therapy education in Canada, showcases the quality of the program we offer at Langara,” said Jen O’Sullivan, Program Coordinator, Langara College. “It also recognizes the inherent value in massage therapy education accreditation and the quality improvement process it supports.” 

With the help of Langara’s Office of Academic Quality Assurance, the program went through the first stages of program review while completing the self-assessment report required by the CMTCA, achieving preliminary accreditation in July 2020.  

The RMT faculty and staff managed to fulfill all Quality Assurance Process Audit (QAPA) requirements and complete all CMTCA preliminary accreditation work, while shifting the program to its current online format due to the pandemic. With the majority of its theoretical components now online and the with practical courses on-campus, the RMT team and Langara’s Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) worked tirelessly to ensure safety and security for both staff and students. 

The program’s next step is to begin its QAPA Action Plan.
