Vancouver BC – Langara College is pleased to announce that it has updated its College-wide Sexual Violence and Misconduct Policy (policy B3009). The stand-alone policy, launched in 2017, outlines the rights & responsibilities of our students and employees, and also provides procedures for how the College community may support those who have experienced sexualized violence.
In fall 2019 the College began the process of reviewing and revising the policy to make it more clear and accessible. The policy was updated through a working committee of students, faculty, and employees, and was officially approved by Langara College President, Lane Trotter on June 30, 2020.
“We are thrilled to be able to provide a revised policy for Langara College that is more clear and accessible for all members of our community,” said Maggie Ross, Director, Student Conduct and Academic Integrity. “We hope that this policy will provide guidance and support to those who may need it.”
The policy addresses sexual assault, sexual harassment, misconduct, and other preventable episodes requiring a response. The policy also outlines a variety of procedures and provides a comprehensive list of services and supports that are accessible to victims and survivors. It was developed in accordance with Bill 23 – the Sexual Violence and Misconduct Act – legislated in April 2016 by the BC provincial government, that requires all post-secondary institutions establish and implement a sexual misconduct policy.
