Jan 30, 2017

On behalf of the Langara College community, I would like to offer our deepest condolences to the victims, the families and friends, and the community of the Centre Culturel Islamique de Quebec. We are heartbroken over the fatal tragedy that took place on Sunday, January 29th, 2017. Our thoughts and prayers are with those in mourning, and we are hoping for a full recovery of those who were injured.

To honour the victims and to recognize the sorrow of all Canadians, Langara will be flying our flag at half-mast.

At this troubling time, I also want to affirm the continued importance the Langara community places on our values, welcoming and including diverse people and perspectives to collaborate together in mutual respect and dignity. We currently welcome international students from 80 countries, and are proud that many local students, faculty, and staff who are new to Canada also choose to be part of our community. This diversity enhances the learning experience for all our students and strengthens the College.

We would like to remind students that counselling support is available through our Counselling Department, and employees that support services are available through the Employee and Family Assistance Program.

Sincerely,

Dr. Lane Trotter
