Vancouver, BC – The Langara College Board of Governors welcomes the appointment of Dr. Heather Holden, effective August 1, 2016. Dr. Holden’s term will run through to December 31, 2017. Kwin Grauer has also been re-elected as Board Chair for his final year on the Board, ending July 31, 2017.
About Dr. Holden
An Investment Counsellor and Portfolio Manager at Swiss Bank UBS, Dr. Holden provides global investment advice to high net worth families. Prior to this, she earned a PhD in science and technology from the University of Waterloo and worked as a professor at the National University of Singapore.
Dr. Holden has enjoyed serving on Boards for over ten years including sitting as Chair of the Vancouver Park Board. She currently serves on the Boards of Sport BC and the False Creek Rowing Club in addition to Langara College. Previously she served on the Boards of the Pacific Carbon Trust, Vancouver Public Library, Nature Trust of BC, and Big Sisters of BC Lower Mainland, where she still volunteers as a Big Sister.
Dr. Holden is an active member of the Institute of Corporate Directors and enjoys challenging herself with ongoing professional development in governance and finance. She is a competitive rower at the Vancouver Rowing Club, squeezes in as much yoga as she can, and is just getting back into cycling.
About Mr. Grauer
A member of the Board since August 2011, Mr. Grauer previously served as Board Second Vice Chair. He is the Managing Director of Salmon's Rentals Ltd. and Apex Tents. Mr. Grauer is a member of the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants, the Institute of Chartered Accountants of BC, and a member of the Board for the Dal Grauer Memorial Lecture at UBC. He holds an Associate Degree in Physics from Capilano University and a Diploma of Technology in Advanced Accounting from the British Columbia Institute of Technology.
About the Board of Governors
The Langara Board of Governors is mandated to govern the College by developing and overseeing the implementation of policy, including setting the vision, mission, and direction for the organization and ensuring the organization is fulfilling its mission and achieving its goals through the president. Government-appointed Board members are appointed to an initial one-year term, renewable up to a six-year maximum.
