Vancouver, BC – The Langara Falcons won two awards at last night’s 2015 Sport BC Athlete of the Year Awards, hosted at the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver. The Awards recognize extraordinary individuals for their excellence in and contribution to sport.

Former men’s basketball player Brody Greig was awarded College Athlete of the Year, while men’s basketball head coach Paul Eberhardt was named the Male Coach of the Year.

"Our coaches and players dedicate so much time and energy to their craft and to be recognized at an event such as the 49th Annual Athlete of the Year awards is truly special,” said Jake McCallum, Director, Athletics and Intramurals. "I could not be more proud of our award winners and nominees as they have represented our department and Langara College at this highest possible level."

The Falcons men’s basketball team was also nominated, but did not win, in the Team of the Year category. That award was won by Canadian Team Pursuit – Cycling.

You are all champions, role models and ambassadors, paving the way for the next generation of BC athletes. Brody Greig, College Athlete of the Year

This award recognizes an individual who competed in a sport, team or individual, and who represented a college, university/college, or institution in the province of British Columbia in the 2013-2014 academic year. Brody had an outstanding 2013-2014 season with the Langara Men’s Basketball team and his lengthy list of achievements is a testament to his performance on the court. In 2014, he won PACWEST Male Athlete of the Year Across All Sports, presented by PACWEST Men’s Basketball Player of the Year, PACWEST first team all-star, PACWEST Provincial Championship Tournament MVP, PACWEST Athlete of the Week (three times), CCAA National All-Canadian, CCAA National Championship MVP, CCAA Men’s Basketball National Champion, and CCAA Male Athlete of the Year Across All Sports. Along with the multiple titles he was awarded, he set records on his way to the top. He led the PACWEST in assists with 10.05 per game, led the Langara Falcons to an all-time season high in league wins with 20, and recorded eight triple-doubles in league play. He averaged a triple-double at the National championships, and led the PACWEST with the most assists in a season, becoming the all-time league assist leader.

Paul Eberhardt, Male Coach of the Year

This award recognizes a male coach who has been responsible for coaching an amateur team(s) and/or individuals at any level of athletic competition in British Columbia. Paul’s dedication and passion for coaching led the Langara College men’s basketball team to a near-perfect season. The team had the most league wins in PACWEST with 20 wins. Their overall league and playoff record was 25-1, and a season overall record of 30-1. This impressive record earned Paul the PACWEST Provincial Men's Basketball Coach of the Year for the second straight year. His team was the highest scoring team in the CCAA, averaging 99 points per game. They won the PACWEST Provincial Championship and the CCAA National Championship, their first national championship since consecutive titles in 1998 and 1999.
