Vancouver, BC – Anne Lippert, Chair of the Langara College Board of Governors, will be honoured with the Order of British Columbia, the province has announced.
Described by the Honours and Awards Secretariat as “a trailblazer among women in business,” Lippert joins 24 other recipients of this year’s award, including former Canucks coach Pat Quinn and author Douglas Coupland.
Lippert was appointed to the Langara board in 2008, elected Vice-Chair in 2010, and Board Chair in 2012. In addition to her role as Chair, Lippert represents the College as a member of the BC Colleges Board Chairs Committee and the Langara Students’ Union Trust Board.
A long-time Langara supporter, Lippert helped bring about the College's partnership with the C.A.R.E Society, established a link between an external Community Rotary program and the College to provide opportunities for donations to third world countries, sustained a 17-year involvement with the Salvation Army, and has facilitated numerous fund-raising activities for arts, health, and educational institutions.
“The Order of British Columbia is the province’s most prestigious accolade,” said Lieutenant-Governor Judith Guichon, who serves as Chancellor of the Order, in the government announcement. “For 25 years, we have publicly recognized those who have dedicated themselves to bettering the lives of their fellow citizens. These recipients exemplify the positive difference one person can make in a community and are an inspiration to all British Columbians.”
Since the Order was first introduced in 1989, 370 people have received the commendation. The Order of BC is bestowed upon British Columbians who have contributed to the province in extraordinary ways. Recipients are selected from a pool of public nominations by an independent advisory committee.
“I am deeply honoured to receive this award alongside such an outstanding set of inspirational British Columbians,” says Lippert.
In the past, Lippert has been honoured by the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal, the International Alliance for Women, the Influential Women in Business Awards, the Association of Women in Finance Award of Excellence, and the YWCA Woman of Distinction Award, among others.
The Order of BC investiture ceremony will be held for recipients and invited guests at Government House in Victoria on November 6, 2014.
