Vancouver, BC - Langara's Publishing Program has launched the 2014 issue of Pacific Rim Magazine. Students, faculty, friends, and family gathered at Harrison Galleries in downtown Vancouver to celebrate the release of the glossy, 64-page publication.

The new issue focuses on stories about community and environment, showcasing students' writing, editing, design, and production skills. Editorial highlights include "The Fin Appeal,” which examines shark conservation, and "The Returns of Labour," which brings a personal perspective to the foreign agricultural workers that travel to British Columbia. The final product is the result of a collaboration between students in the Professional Photography, Marketing Management, and Library & Information Technology programs.

"Publishing students are a diverse and extremely talented group of individuals,” says Trista Baldwin, a publishing student and Managing Editor of Pacific Rim Magazine. "The breadth of experience and range of expression enabled us to learn not only from the instructors - who were infinitely helpful and patient in their guidance - but from each other as well. There were plenty of long hours and stressful moments, but there were a lot of triumphs too. The end result was a product that we're all proud of, and hopefully one that the readers will enjoy."

"This cornerstone project provides a unique opportunity to apply a wide variety of skills learned in the program,” adds Darren Bernaerdt, Publishing Department Coordinator and publisher of Pacific Rim Magazine. "Every year, the students put their own creative touch on this publication. This year’s issue continues the tradition of a professional calibre magazine."

On May 7th, 17,000 copies of the publication were distributed in The Globe and Mail to subscribers across BC. Flip through the digital copy on issuu.com, or order a copy online via the Langara College Bookstore. Online orders include free shipping via Canada Post.
