Vancouver, BC – Langara is pleased to announce the appointment of Jake McCallum as the new permanent Director of Athletics and Intramurals. McCallum has been serving as the acting Director since November, 2010, when he replaced Clayton Munro, who is now Langara’s Dean of Student Services.
During his time as the Acting Director, McCallum oversaw a string of successes for the Langara Falcons, including numerous individual and team accomplishments both provincially and nationally. This past season, the Falcons men’s basketball team won their second consecutive PACWEST Provincial Championship and their first National Championship since 1999. The badminton squad won their first PACWEST Provincial Championship since 2005 and claimed national gold in Mixed Doubles along with national silver medals in Men’s Singles and Men’s Doubles.
A former student-athlete with the men’s basketball team from 1993-1997, McCallum returned to Langara in 1999 as the Assistant Coach for men’s basketball. He has since served as the College’s Facilities Assistant and Athletics Department Assistant before assuming the role as Acting Director.
“As someone who has been a student-athlete, coach, staff member, and administrator at Langara, Jake brings great knowledge and experience to this role,” noted Clayton Munro, Dean of Student Services. “This breadth of experience combined with his longstanding dedication to the program will continue to be a great benefit to our student-athletes, our coaches, and the entire Falcon community.”
McCallum is a Langara alumnus, with Bachelor degrees from UBC in Human Kinetics and Education and a Masters degree in Sports Psychology from California University of Pennsylvania.
