Vancouver, BC – Langara School of Nursing students successfully hosted their first Canadian Nursing Students’ Association (CNSA) National Conference. With over 800 student delegates, the 43rd annual event was the largest conference ever held. It was also the first time the conference was held in Western Canada and the first time that it was ever hosted by a single college.
The 2014 CNSA National Conference was held January 22-25 at the Hyatt Regency in Vancouver. Themed “Envision. Create. Innovate.”, the conference drew nursing students and faculty from across Canada as well as representatives from provincial health authorities and the Canadian Federation of Nurses Union.
“We wanted to highlight ongoing efforts to spark change and transitions in nursing,” said Tina Tieu, Langara Nursing student and 2014 CNSA National Conference director. “Our goal was to empower nursing students to create an impact in their communities, both nationally and internationally.“
Langara Nursing students won the right to host the event based on their success organizing the 2012 CNSA Western and Prairie Regional Conference. With the support of Langara's Nursing faculty, a team of 13 students and three faculty members was assembled and event planning began in December 2012.
"I am very proud of our students for bringing this conference to Vancouver,” said Janine Lennox, Chair of Langara School of Nursing. “The Western and Prairie Regional Conference in October 2012 was an incredible experience, and the experience of organizing this national conference strengthens future nursing leadership capacity for improved health care for British Columbians.”
